What is ecu remapping?

ECU remapping is the process of modifying the software that controls the engine management system in a vehicle. Vehicles are released from manufacturers with limiting software parameters, holding back the true performance capability of your vehicle. At 117Speed we calibrate the engine ECU with our mobile remapping service to remove software limitations and improve performance and economy with a variety of optional extras such as VMAX limiter removal and ‘pops and bangs’.

Performance tuning

With our stage 1 remap you can expect up to a  15-25% increase in power and torque. Improving acceleration with more power lower down in the rev range, providing a quicker throttle response and improved fuel economy.

  • More Horsepower
  • More Torque
  • Improved throttle response
  • Improved fuel efficiency

We can improve your vehicle’s fuel economy by remapping the ECU to produce more torque in the lower and mid-range RPM which will provide a smoother power delivery, requiring fewer gear changes to get to cruising speed. This allows for less fuel consumption when accelerating at cruising speeds as well as reducing flat spots on acceleration making acceleration smoother with a power band that consistently delivers performance throughout the rev range.

The team over here 117Speed has certified master ECU calibrators who can help improve almost every type of vehicle whether it be petrol, diesel or electric hybrid.

How do we perform our mobile remapping service?

All of the files we use on mobile-tuned vehicles are first calibrated at our state-of-the-art tuning facility in Manchester.

Calibrations are made, uploaded to the vehicle ECU and tweaked to meet the client’s demand with accurate power figures relayed from the dynamometer to guide our calibration. A final file is then produced and saved to our database as a ‘base file’ that we can use as a starting point when mobile tuning the same vehicle at a later date.

We use genuine approved tools such as  Kess, Kess 3 and CMD which connect to the vehicle’s ECU.  We read the existing software of the vehicle and write a calibrated file back onto the vehicle. This can be done through the OBD port.

Yes, you need to tell your insurance provider if your car engine has been remapped. In car insurance terms, remapping or chipping is considered a car modification, even if it’s one you can’t actually see. If you don’t inform your insurance provider, it could invalidate your policy.
Your vehicle will still pass its MOT test after a remap. The remap does not affect your MOT.
A car remap will void your engine’s warranty (including the turbo or supercharger), and it may also void your clutch and gearbox warranty too. Most manufacturer warranties will not detect the software upgrades made to the vehicle upon inspection and software can be returned to stock ahead of inspections to avoid that awkward conversation.

A ECO remap is a safe and effective way to improve the performance of your vehicle. The 117Speed team provide full diagnostic services before your vehicle software is calibrated to ensure your vehicle is in good health and safe to remap.
